Obituary of Patricia Marion Smith

Patricia passed away in her home in Mt. Airy, Maryland on Thursday April 11, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.  She was 86.

Patricia was born on March 17, 1933 in Rochester, New York to her parents Frederick and Josephine Davy.  She graduated from the State University of Brockport with a degree in Education in 1954 and began working as a teacher in the Churchville-Chili School District.  She married Lewis Smith in 1956.  She dedicated her working life to educating children – she taught 8th grade Social Studies at Churchville Chili Junior High until moving to the Senior High to teach 11th grade American History.  In the early 1980’s she taught the first AP History course and taught that subject until she retired in 1988 after serving 34 years as a teacher.  Patricia and Lewis retired to Florida where they lived until his death in 2002.  Patricia spent the past 17 years living in Maryland close to her daughter and grandchildren.

Patricia is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Tracy Smith Hart and Patrick Ronan of Mt. Airy, MD; her granddaughter Sarah Grace Hart of Los Angeles, CA; her grandson Alexander Hart of Washington, DC, loving cousins and friends including Ted Hart of Columbia, MD and is preceded in death by her husband Lewis and her daughter Meri-Jo Smith. 

Calling hours for Patricia will be held Saturday April 20that Walker Brothers Funeral Home, 21 South Main Street, Churchville, NY from 10 a.m. to 12:00 noon and will be followed by a graveside service at Creekside Cemetery in Churchville.
